Jennifer Tomlinson Smith, 54, passed away on February 5, 2026, surrounded by the love she so freely gave throughout her life. She was born February 21, 1971 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. From the very beginning lived with a purpose rooted in faith, service, and deep devotion to others.
Jennifer dedicated 29 years of her life to teaching-a calling she embraced with joy and gratitude every single day. She believed wholeheartedly in the power of education and poured herself into her students, leaving a lasting imprint not only on young minds, but on countless hearts.
Her faith was central to who she was, Jennifer was vigilant and tireless in her service, giving generously of her time and energy to her church community. She was especially passionate about organizing and teaching Vacation Bible School and leading mission trips, including meaningful work in Tanzania. Her faith was not just something she believed-it was something she lived.
Jennifer was married for many years to Tommy Tomlinson, with whom she shared a beautiful life and raised five children. After Tommy’s passing in 2021, Jennifer was blessed with a second chance at love when she married Dee Smith. Through that union, she joyfully welcomed Dee and his four sons into her life, expanding her family and her heart once more.
Jennifer was a proud and loving grandmother to three grandchildren, all who brought her immense joy and were a constant reminder of God’s goodness and grace.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reginald and Brenda Messina, and John Pantall, as well as her first husband, Tommy Tomlinson.
She is survived by her husband, Dee Smith; her beloved children and grandchildren: Tara and Price Howell, Scarlett Velasquez and Maddox Howell, Morganne Tomlinson, Tanner Garza, Madison Frye, Holden Frye Garza, Tristan Smith and Gracie Proctor, Zachary Tomlinson, Kaylin Tomlinson, Tucker Smith, Teagan Smith and Brennan Tomlinson; her brother Scott Messeina and wife Deb; niece Kathlene Mayrant and husband Dawson.
Above all else, Jennifer will be remembered for her vibrancy. She was full of life, warmth, and compassion, and her love radiated from every cell in her body. She had a rare gift for making people feel seen, valued, and deeply loved. Her legacy lives on in her family, her students, her faith community, and the countless lives she touched near and far.
